Focus on innovations within healthcare at the annual WOMI conference
Medical innovations are crucial to bring new technology and services into health care. The annual WOMI conference - which the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurships (IIE) helps organize - brought together scholars on this topic, to discuss new innovations and the latest research.
The WOMI 2019 conference was held at Scula Superiore Santa'Anna, in Pisa, Italy, and representing the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship were the researchers Maureen McKelvey, Rögnvaldur Saemundsson and Viktor Ström. They presented three papers from ongoing research projects within the research area.
- Our research demonstrates that universities primarily interact through the development of long-term knowledge-based networks, which may differ in different technology fields, says Maureen McKelvey, Professor at the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

PhD student Viktor Ström was attending the conference for the first time and also presented a paper that he is working on together with Maureen McKelvey, Daniel Ljungberg and Karin Berg, all from the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
- I am very thankful for been given this opportunity to present a paper at WOMI, says Viktor Ström. Initial findings suggest that dually affiliated researchers (e.g. adjunct professors, industrial Ph.D. students) have a (very) import role for university-industry interaction. Initial findings also imply that the firm employed researchers with a prior link to the university where the university researchers are working tend to be higher educated and involved in more university-industry publications compared to non-university linked firm researchers.
