Meet Mikaela - student in the MSc programme Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship

Mikaela Gernandt comes from Stockholm, Sweden, and she moved to Gothenburg in the fall of 2017 to study the Master of Science programme Knowledge-based Entrepreneurship at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg. The programme runs for two years and Mikaela will graduate in spring 2019.

Why did you choose this specific programme?

I obtained my bachelor´s degree in marketing at Uppsala University. I knew I was going to take a master to improve my skills and get the tools to extend my knowledge in Entrepreneurship. I chose to study this master at Handels in Gothenburg since I got it recommended and saw it as a great possibility to gain knowledge and contacts.

What are your expectations for the programme?

The programme will hopefully develop my entrepreneurial mindset. In this master business becomes more creative and innovative. It will give me the right knowledge and a practical preparation with real world experiences. Furthermore I will learn how to successfully manage new businesses, think critically, handle complex projects and get the needed leadership skills. I also expect to meet different people and build my network further.

Is there anything in particular that you are looking forward to within the programme?

Meeting innovative and like-minded people and learning from other entrepreneurs and their experiences.

What do you like the most about your programme and the school?

It allows you think outside the box and be creative. A lot of the students in the class come from all around the world. It provides for a dynamic, multi-cultural and broad learning environment. The first term we have met a lot of interesting companies, competences and entrepreneurs. The graduate student organization, GSO, brings students together and allows us to have fun outside school hours.

What makes Gothenburg and Sweden a great place to study?

Besides Stockholm I have been living in Paris, Oslo and Sydney. Gothenburg is the smallest of them but has the charm, energy and beauty. As a student it is easy to adapt, get around and the residents are very friendly. If you are planning to study abroad here as an international student, Gothenburg is a good place to be. The Swedish society and culture is open-minded and believe in people, equality and environment. It allows for creativity, critical thinking and democratic learning.

Any tips for future students?

Like Elon Musk the innovator and entrepreneur says;

”If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it”
