About Andreas Skriver Hansen

Academic profile
PhD, Human Geography, University of Gothenburg, Sweden
M.A. Geography and History, Roskilde University, Denmark

Research
My research mainly concerns tourism and outdoor recreation planning, management and monitoring, particularly in coastal and marine areas. This work often connects to a management level, why my research often has a distinct applied research character. I am also interested in the concepts of tourism and outdoor recreation and how they are understood and have developed in different parts of the world. A particular research interest of mine is nature-based tourism  and recreation, often in relation to natural resource planning and management in protected areas. In particular, I have worked with tourism and outdoor recreation planning and management activities in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. I am a dedicated field worker who promotes the use of fieldwork, both in my research and in my teaching. In my field work, I often make use of mixed-method strategies and discuss pros and cons in relation to this.

From a more theoretical standpoint, I am particularly interested in landscape theory with an emphasis on different landscape perceptions and experiences, uses and understandings. I also work a lot with applied theory, especially in connection to physical and environmental planning of coastal and marine areas. This includes work with planning frameworks such as Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and the Water And Land Recreative Opportunity Spectrum (WALROS). All frameworks include links to adaptive and sustainable management of coastal and marine environments.
