The Broman Foundation for Research and Entrepreneurship has decided to designate Ethan Gifford and Rögnvaldur Saemundsson as two recipients of a total of four scholarships in 2017.
Ethan Gifford and Rögnvaldur Saemundsson are awarded SEK 268 000 each for their respective research project. Both are researchers at the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Economy and Society, School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.
Ethan’s project, “Entrepreneurship in the New Economy: Exploring relationships between knowledge intensity, innovation and growth in new firms”, involves conceptualizing, operationalizing, and analyzing characteristics of European entrepreneurial firms that exhibit high innovativeness and high knowledge intensity, and linking these characteristics to different performance outcomes by means of both regression analysis as well as structural equation modeling (SEM). This project is important because understanding the firm level factors driving growth of new ventures in the context of the new economy, where knowledge-based and knowledge-intensive activity is more crucial than ever before for economic growth and societal well-being.
The purpose of Rögnvaldur’s research project “Co-evaluation of medical and engineering knowledge for innovation and entrepreneurship” is to conceptualize, and empirically investigate, the co-evolution of medical and engineering knowledge in the context of innovation and entrepreneurship. How does engineering knowledge co-evolve with medical knowledge? How and why is the co-evolution related to medical innovation and entrepreneurship?
The scholarships from the Broman Foundation for Research and Entrepreneurship are intended for both international and local researchers, and are aimed both at younger researchers who have recently completed their doctorate and senior researchers.
