International conference on the universities changing role

The Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) is playing host to a conference entitled Deciphering the New Challenges to Universities: Knowledge Economy and its impact on internal organization, relations to firms, and public policy.
This conference analyzes the change role of universities, from the traditional view that they should primarily be places of academic research and higher education, to the broader view that they need to prioritize additional missions or objectives in regards to intellectual property and innovation, societal impact, and regional development. Universities are adapting to new challenges and this affects their organizational evolution to a large degree.
The conference brings together internationally well-known and respected names in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship such as Vincent Mangematin of Grenoble University, Paul Nightingale of University of Sussex, Markus Perkmann of Imperial College, London and Deborah Strumsky of Arizona State University, together with IIE’s research team and visiting professors Guido Buenstorf, University of Kassel and Astrid Heidemann Lassen, Aalborg University, to discuss and analyze the abovementioned phenomenon in September, here in Gothenburg. The workshop’s collective ideas and conclusions will be the object of a special issue in a scientific journal within Innovation and Entrepreneurship studies in the not too distant future.
The conference will be held in Gothenburg, between 11 and 13 September and is organized by Professor, Maureen McKelvey, Professor Guido Buenstorf, Professor Astrid Heidenmann Lassen, and Ethan Gifford, PhD and Post-doctoral Scholar.
